04Security & custody

Trek Technologies SIA is MiCA-authorised to provide custody and administration of crypto-assets, but the crypto deposit/withdrawal service for EU clients was not yet open as of 23/08/2026.

05What to know before you start

Two-entity structure: (1) Trek Labs Europe Ltd, formerly FTX EU, provides the perpetual futures offer under a CySEC/MiFID II licence; (2) Trek Technologies SIA in Latvia has held the MiCA spot/custody/exchange/transfer licence and a payment licence since 27/05/2026. Backpack EU accepts individuals and institutional/corporate accounts and has an iOS/Android app. The spot offer is not yet commercially open.
History of the derivatives entity: on 23/06/2025 CySEC announced a settlement of 200 000 € with Trek Labs Europe Ltd (formerly FTX EU Ltd) concerning possible breaches over the period March 2022–12/11/2022. The CySEC decision states that this period predates the change of name and shareholding structure: the episode does not concern Backpack EU's current operations. Yes. "Trek Technologies" SIA is licensed as a crypto-asset service provider (CASP) under the MiCA regulation. Competent authority: Latvijas Banka, Latvia. Notification to the ESMA register: 27/05/2026. A MiCA licence works as a passport: it allows the provider to operate across the entire European Union.
